About this Trip
These notes come from a mix of different Cincinnati adventures, blended with some stops I’m still planning to hit on a future trip. Cincinnati is one of those cities that feels like an easy escape—packed with unique food, walkable neighborhoods, and attractions that range from historical to quirky. There’s so much to see that you almost need multiple visits to scratch the surface.
Keep reading for highlights of what I loved (and some things I still want to try).
Where to Stay
I highly recommend staying at the Homewood Suites Downtown Cincinnati. It’s comfortable, conveniently located, and has all the amenities you’d need to make your trip feel like a home away from home. Plus, the city itself is wonderfully walkable, and the Cincy Connector streetcar makes getting around super simple.
Must-Try Food
Alcove: If you’re a brunch fan (or Bloody Mary enthusiast), this spot is not to be missed. Their smoked trout and hashbrown casserole are standouts. Bonus tip: ask for a side of goetta gravy—it’s a local specialty that takes everything up a notch.
Skyline Chili: Cincinnati’s pride and joy. Order the signature dish: steaming spaghetti topped with their famous chili and a mountain of shredded cheddar cheese. You can customize with onions or beans, but honestly, it’s perfect as is.
Kruger’s Bar & Grill: A classic spot for grabbing a laid-back bite.
Food I’m Saving for Next Time
Bakersfield Tacos
Queen City Radio: A German-inspired food truck and bar—what’s not to love?
Zundo: Because ramen.
Rhinegeist Brewery (Brew District): This brewery is already on my radar for its cool vibes and beer selection.
The Eagle: I hear their fried chicken is legendary.
Activities You’ll Love
Level 1 Arcade: My first trip here was fantastic—the vintage games were a nostalgic throwback, and the whole place had great energy. Unfortunately, my second visit was less enjoyable due to a very rude employee who dampened the experience. Hopefully, he’s been fired by now, because this spot has a lot of potential for fun.
King’s Island: This massive amusement park has it all—thrilling roller coasters, a water park, and family-friendly rides. It’s a must for anyone visiting the area, especially if you love that adrenaline rush.
American Sign Museum: A neon lover’s dream. This museum showcases the history and art of vintage signage, and it’s way cooler than you might expect.
Cincinnati Murals: The city’s vibrant street art is a masterpiece in itself. Some of the murals are tucked away in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, so it’s worth wandering around to find them.
Northern Kentucky Riverfront: Just a short hop across one of the city’s iconic bridges, this area offers scenic views, great food trucks, and even an aquarium.
Cincinnati’s Bridges: I’m obsessed with bridges, and Cincinnati has some gems. The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, in particular, is a stunning piece of history and architecture.
Taft Museum: The William Howard Taft Presidential Library and Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio, showcases the life and legacy of the 27th U.S. president, featuring exhibits on his presidency, progressive reforms, and post-presidency as Chief Justice. Housed in Taft's childhood home, the museum offers a unique look at his political and legal contributions to American history.
Things I’m Adding for Next Time
FC Cincinnati Game: Soccer fans rave about the electric atmosphere at TQL Stadium.
Hidden Brewery Caverns Tour: Explore Cincinnati’s underground brewing history, complete with beer tasting. It’s like stepping into a secret world beneath the city.
Cincinnati Reds Game: Catch a game at Great American Ball Park, the home of the Cincinnati Reds, one of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball (founded in 1869). The stadium is beautifully located along the Ohio River and offers a quintessential baseball experience.
Cincinnati Orchestra - The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra offers world-class performances, including opera productions, classical concerts, and special events. Attendees can enjoy a rich array of musical experiences, from grand symphonies to intimate chamber performances, all showcasing the talent of renowned conductors and musicians.
